LECTURE

For this weeks lecture, Ms Jinchi talked about Self Portraits. A self-portrait basically defines as a drawing or painting or any form of design that represents oneself. She then continued by explaining what we are required to do for our Project 1.

IDEATION

For my self-portrait, I thought to myself first what do I see in me as a person but then realizing that I don't really know myself that well so I decided to talk to some of my friends that have known me for years since a part of the definition of self is how others view you as a person. They all mentioned that I'm a very nice person, friendly and caring but there was a characteristic they all said about me that all of them agreed on which at first glance I'm a very quiet and shy person but when someone gets to know me I'm actually a very cheerful and bubbly person. Based on the stuff my friends have told me I decided to further get to know the meaning of what the word bubbly means. A bubbly person pretty is a person that is very cheerful, a person that loves to laugh and of course loves to talk a lot.

After looking over some amazing self-portraits I decided to sketch out an idea for my self-portrait. The inspiration behind my self-portrait was actually by a well-known phrase Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover. As we all know the meaning of this phrase is to not judge something or somebody as its appearance which could describe me really well. As I've stated in my rationale, at a first glance I would look like a very shy person but once a person gets to know me I am actually a lively and cheerful person.

After coming up with my idea I started working on my work which I decided to use collage work. The reason I chose this way was that I actually enjoyed doing collage work for my previous task which is why I decided to further do collage work for this project.

FEEDBACK

The design I made was quite interesting just that the for the real-me should be more like a genie so it would look more complete also add more elements like stars or words to express my cheerful and bubbly self.

REFLECTION

Through this exercise, I was able to reflect on myself as who I am and also find out more about myself through people that are close to me.
