Task 3: Webtoon and Motion Comic
After submitting our Task 2, we are briefed on what we had to do for our
next task which is to create a webtoon and then later on do a slight animated
video for the motion comic. The theme for the webtoon that was given to us was
Horror.
After receiving the genre Horror for our webtoon I actually was quite
worried as I was not well versed in this genre as I am a person who would
usually read Romance graphic novels. Which is why I decided to try combining
the genre of Romance and Horror into my graphic novel plot. With that in mind
I decided to look into some webtoons or stories that centers around Horror
with a dash of Romance.
While browsing through popular graphic novel apps like Tapas, Webtoon, Lezhin
and etc. There were a few that caught my attention and I felt that could help
me develop to create a story for my own webtoon. Below are the graphic novels
I found were suited to what genre I had in mind.
Figure 4.1 Story References
With the following story references, I was able to come up with a storyline
for my webtoon. I used the 3 Act Structure which was taught by Ms Anis in one
of our lecture classes to tell my story. The passage below is the storyline
that I came up with for my webtoon.
3 ACT STRUCTURE
ACT 1:SET UP
Every day while MC (still haven’t decided a name) is walking home from work
she’ll always have a mysterious man that would follow and watch her from a
distance. She would also tend to receive weird love letters attached with
distant taken pictures of her with a message “you will soon be mine”.
ACT 2: CONFLICT
One day as MC was out and about in the mall she accidently bumps into a tall,
good looking and charming guy which MC knew he was totally her type.
After deciding to exchange numbers with him, MC and the guy really hit it off
and soon a month later they start dating. MC did feel quite strange that her
mysterious stalker stopped following her home from work ever since she met her
dream guy so MC took it as a sign that she was finally free from that
mysterious stalker and can finally move on with her life.
ACT 3: RESOLUTION
With Ms Anis feedback I decided to proceed with my current story and start by
writing up a script on what I would like my characters to say and what actions
and panels that I want to draw out in my webtoon.
After I completed writing my script, I started to work on my illustrations for
my webtoon. Below is an overview screenshot of my webtoon panels and how I
wish to arrange them and a pdf file with my compiled panels.

After completing my overall story, I decided to change the title of my webtoon which would be more befitting to the story.
With that my webtoon was ready to publish my webtoon on the Webtoon website.
Figure 4.5 Webtoon Publishing
After saving all of my panels as a JPEG file, I realized that the size of the file is too big for me to import into webtoon so I tried looking for solutions on how to fix this issue.
With the help of some searching, I found a website where they could help you compress your image sizes to the selected size you wanted, so I decided to use this site to help me compress my big image files.

Thanks to the following website, I was able to upload my files and create a canvas of my webtoon story.

FEEDBACK
Week 11:
Ms Anis gave me recommendation to end my story with "her face looking at the readers, horrified. and a dark figure behind her saying, i told you, you will be mine"
REFLECTION
For this task, I honestly felt so burnt out and tired while trying to complete the task but I still enjoyed trying to complete it. After completing it too I also felt like the story I made had some plot holes that I wish I could amend and go back to fix but regardless I'm still quite happy that I was able to come up with a final work. One thing I've learnt through doing this task is that I should be open to reading other genres in case if any of these kind of chances occur in the future.
